One day, in the summer of 2020, Jim Kopp, a local musician grew tired of practicing at his kitchen table and decided to go down to the local park and play in the gazebo instead. After setting up, a customer of the nearby restaurant sat down with their take out for lunch and started listening. The musician thought: “If I make this a regular occurrence with myself and other musicians playing during lunchtime in the park, I may be onto something here.” He asked a local benefactor if they would support such an endeavor, proposing that it would help the struggling local businesses (and not to mention the musicians) that were affected by Covid-19 restrictions. They agreed and he started scheduling other local musicians to take a turn and play on a weekly basis and help promote visiting the various stores, shops and restaurants in Stamford, NY. And with that, the High Noon Concert series was born.
This event grew with more members of the community consistently gathering week after week with lawn chairs and blankets. So much so that the next year, it was decided to add a few Wednesday evening concerts and the year after that, some Sunday afternoons. During the summer of 2023 Summer, over 1,200 audience members were treated to over 20 different acts during the various High Noon, Wednesday Evening and Sunday afternoon concerts that featured genres such as Country, Jazz, Classic Rock, Rhythm & Groove, Bluegrass. Golden Oldies, Acoustic Rock, Blues and even a Summer Camp Singalong for the local children's camps.
In the fall of 2023, it was decided that more help was needed to manage this endeavor. “The Board of Musication” a volunteer committee was formed with Jim Kopp and Bobby Curious - who coordinate, schedule and promote this concert series that continues to grow. Larger supporters such as Coldwell Banker Timberland and Community Bank and The West Kortright Center, were added to provide underwriting of these concerts in addition to the support of other private donors.
